Chagrin Falls Broken Dental Crown — Can It Be Fixed?
Do you wear dental crowns? Well, remember that I have a dental clinic in Chagrin Falls. So please come to me if you see that your dental crown has fractured or broken.
Crowns do break. The ones you find readily available in my Chagrin Falls dental crown office are very durable. In fact, they could give you 15 years. Even longer. And sometimes even shorter.
Even modern crowns, which are sturdier than older ones, may need to be changed sooner than you expect if you fail to care for them in the right way. Do you grind your teeth at night? This causes problems for crowns. Lots of people grind although almost all of them have no idea.
And some people chew really hard, or chew on ice.
If you find you have a fractured dental crown, it is likely that the porcelain has weakened. Or at least the part of the crown made from ceramic. If you have gold or metal alloys, you are unlikely to see fractures on them because they can adapt to grinding and other pressure-related actions of your jaw.
These characteristics make such metals perfect for backing up your dental crowns.
The drawback with metals like gold is their appearance. Therefore, we use porcelain along with metal on the crown. But that's not all. We can also use 100 per cent ceramic crowns that has no metal. But this may break more often.
The good thing about porcelain dental crowns is that they look like natural teeth. This is because of the similarity to teeth in color and feel. However, porcelain cannot withstand the pressure of your jaw muscles each time you crunch your teeth, either from chewing or grinding.
There's another negative aspect to ceramic. Because they are so delicate, it takes only one crack for the damage to spread.
You cannot keep a broken ceramic crown in your mouth. Once it breaks, you have no choice but to get another one. Not only will they not look good, you could get an infection. Unless you seek treatment quickly, your crown may be beyond saving. It may result in us replacing the entire tooth. And you may be forced to have a dental implant.
So, if you are in Chagrin Falls and have a broken Chagrin Falls dental crown, I would recommend you see me and let my experienced team and I work on your teeth.
